BJP MLA regrets remarks

PATNA, MARCH 26.The Bihar Assembly today witnessed uproarious scenes over the derogatory remarks by a BJP MLA, Mr. Navi Kishore Prasad Sinha, against Ministers, for which he later expressed regret following objections from the treasury benches and the advice of the Chair.

Participating in the debate on the budgetary demands for the Cabinet Secretariat and the Coordination department for the period 2001-2002, Mr. Sinha alleged that the State Government was a total failure on all fronts. He made derogatory references against the Ministers in the Rabri Devi Cabinet, which was vehemently opposed by the treasury benches.

Chief Minister Rabri Devi took serious exception to Mr. Sinha's remark while the Water Resources Minister, Mr. Jagdanand Singh, advised him (Sinha) to tender an apology. The presiding member, Mr. Bhola Prasad Singh, too advised Mr. Sinha to express regret for the word used by him for the ministers as they were also honourable members of the House. The remarks were expunged.

Mr. Sinha later obliged the Chair after a din for five minutes. The State Government would reply to the debate on the budgetary demands for Cabinet Secretariat and Coordination department tomorrow.
