By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, MARCH 28. Mr. A.M.Krishnamoorthy, president of the Pondicherry BJP and the trade union leader Mr.Ilangovan presented on Tuesday,a memorandum to the Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Mr. C.H.Vidyasagar Rao, seeking his intervention to form a Special Industrial Tribunal to go into the demands of workers of the Bharathi and Swadeshi mills.

These mills are under the control of the National Textile Corporation.

Mr.Krishnamoorthy, who distributed copies of the memorandum to newsmen said the pay fixed for the workers as per the previous

Tribunal`s recommendations in 1993 and the period of its validity had come to an end and the new wage pattern had to be fixed now.

Mr.Krishnamoorthy drew the attention of the Central Minister, during his visit here, to the ongoing agitations by the workers.

The memorandum alleged the Union Territory administration had not set up a special tribunal though it had the powers to form one.

It was also pointed out that workers of the AFT mill run by Pondicherry administration had been sanctioned a cyclone relief of Rs 2500.

Hence orders to pay a similar amount to the two NTC run mills should be passed. The memorandum also requested the Minister to arrange for a CBI probe into the allegations made against the AFT mill. Further, a number of workers of the Swadeshi and Bharathi mills had opted for voluntary retirement scheme ,but the managements had not responded to the plea.
