Jamir, Advani hold 'positive' talks
NEW DELHI, APRIL 5. The Centre today discussed with the Nagaland
Chief Minister, Mr. S.C. Jamir, the broad parameters of putting
into effect a ceasefire to rein in Naga insurgent groups, the
NSCN (Khaplang) and the Naga National Council (Federal).
Emerging from a meeting with the Home Minister, Mr. L. K. Advani,
here, Mr. Jamir said, ``it was a positive meeting.''
Mr. Jamir said he raised the issue of creating a battalion of the
Indian Reserve Police in the State, a demand his Government had
raised earlier.
State Government sources told PTI that the truce could ``come
very soon but it is premature to commit.'' Final touches were
being given to the ground rules for the truce, sources said. The
NSCN (K) general secretary, Mr. Kitovi, and senior army officials
were engaged in working out the ground rules.
The Centre entered into a ceasefire with the National Socialist
Council of Nagaland (Issac-Muivah) in August 1997.
