Continuance of KSPCB chief : HC adjourns hearing

By Our Correspondent

BANGALORE, MARCH 5. Mr. Justice Ashok Bhan and Mr. Justice D.V.Shylendra Kumar, constituting a Division Bench in the Karnataka High Court, have adjourned to April 12, 2001, further hearing of the public interest writ petition filed by the Samaja Parivarthana Samudaya. The petitioner had challenged the continuance of Professor Shivalingaiah as Chairman of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) even after the expiry of his term.

The court had earlier ordered payment of Rs. 1,000 towards costs since the authorities had not filed the statement of objections to the writ petition. The court had also asked the Government to indicate when a new chairman would be appointed to KSPCB. The petitioner had sought the appointment of a new chairman. According to the petitioner, there were irregularities in the affairs of the KSPCB into which an enquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation was sought.
