Film Review: ``One 2 Ka 4''

A HINT of romance, oodles of comedy and a liberal dose of action...but the storyline is cliched, reflecting a hotch-potch of many also-rans.

The formidable screen pair of Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla is back, only this time, in more serious roles. Arun (Shah Rukh) is part of a Special Task Force that combats drug trafficking in Mumbai. Arun and his senior Javed (Jackie Shroff) are out to eliminate the notorious drug dealer KKV (Nirmal Pandey at his menacing best). In a deadly encounter with the mafia, Javed is killed and the responsibility of taking care of his prancing children falls on Arun.

The kids give him a tough time, so Arun decides to solicit the help of Geeta (Juhi), Javed's naive friend. As time passes, you realise that Arun opened not only his house, but also his heart for the garrulous Geeta.

No...don't yawn yet. During a visit to KKV's den, Arun spots a sultry stunner. And to his surprise, she resembles Geeta. From then on, director Shashilal Nair, tries to bring in elements of suspense to bail out the otherwise run-of-the mill plot. Who is Geeta? Was Javed actually killed in the encounter? Who is the real villain? There are many questions to be resolved.

Be it the comic portions or the scenes involving high-voltage action, the gun wielding Shah Rukh makes a mark with his ebullience. Though jaded, Juhi gives a well-nuanced performance in the different roles she essays. It's a blink-and-you-miss role for Jackie, yet he makes the desired impact, portraying poignance with grace. And as for A. R. Rahman's music, there is nothing much to write home about those recycled tunes. On the whole, a fare sans much fizz.
