Compact spell of swaras
K. S. Vijayashree gave a refreshing vocal recital for Sangeetha
Rasika Sangam of Natesa Nagar in Virugambakkam. She sang with an
urge to invest her performance with details reflective of the
aspects of grace and signified by gamakas.
Presenting the piece, ``Mooladharamurthe'' (Hamsadhwani) in a
pleasing form, the singer rendered the kriti, ``Sriparvathi''
(Bowli) in a deft diction. The piece was completed with a session
of catchy swara exercises.
The piece, ``Gowrimanohara'' of Papanasam Sivan came next with a
raga preface in a form impressive with finer phrases.
Vijayashree's description of Suddhadhanyasi was elegant in a
course of lucid raga elaboration. She completed it with a
palatable presentation of the piece, ``Saamodam Chintayami'' of
Swati Tirunal.
Jayanthi Keshav supported the recital ably on the violin. The
sketches of Suddhadhanyasi and Pantuvarali drawn by her were
attractive. K. S. Sukumar accompanied the recital affably on the
mridangam.
Gifted with a sweet voice, Jayanthi Mohan sang delightfully for
Mudhra at the mini hall of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan in
Mylapore. Her execution of the pieces, ``Srijalandaram,''
``Nidayarada'' and ``Ranjani Niranjani'' was agile and enjoyable
in forms aligned continuously on the sruti. The vocalist's
development of Madhyamavathi was dainty and attested to her grasp
of the details of its charm. The piece, ``Adigisukhamu'' of
Tyagaraja was rendered by her with an awareness of its appeal in
the metrical setting of the misra chapu. The passages of neraval
and swaras for this piece were tidy.
Akkarai Subbulakshmi (violin) followed the recital in fascinating
style. Kallidaikurichi Sivakumar supported the recital skilfully
on the mridangam.
