MCH readies exclusive hall for interactive programme

By V.N. Harinath

HYDERABAD, APRIL 6. The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad has become the first civic body in the country to have a permanent and exclusive hall where officers will interact directly with people on telephone in the weekly `Face-to-Face' programme, bringing Government officials from various departments under one roof.

Two city Ministers -- Mr. K. Vijayarama Rao and Mr. C. Krishna Yadav -- and a host of officials from Telecom Department, APSRTC, A.P. Transco, HMWSSB, Police Department, HUDA and Revenue Department will answer queries posed by the callers.

The hall -- constructed at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs -- is ready and is awaiting inauguration, said the MCH Commissioner, Dr. P.K. Mohanty, who took the initiative for the construction of the hall. The hall is located on the first floor of the main building housing the MCH head office. Mr. Ch. Mallikarjunudu, Executive Engineer (Computerisation), MCH, had supervised the construction work.

The hall has provision for a podium which can accommodate 10 departmental heads and an audience gallery with a capacity to seat 35 persons. The air-conditioned hall has also plush interiors and an excellent sound system.

Dr. Mohanty told The Hindu on Friday that the idea in having the hall was to continue the process of interaction between the administration and people. Already, the Siticable and Incable were giving online coverage of the proceedings every Wednesday between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., he noted.
