Four policemen killed in landmine blast

RAJAHMUNDRY, APRIL 19. One reserve police inspector and three
constables - one from the SSF (Special Security Force also known
as Grey Hounds) and the other two from the district police - were
killed and a reserve sub-inspector was grievously injured in a
landmine blast in the interior agency village Chintakarrapalem in
Y.Ramavaram mandal of East Godavari district, about 90 km from
here, on Thursday.
The injured were being taken to hospital. The explosion occurred
at around 3.30 pm.
The landmine was reported to have been triggered by banned
People's War Group extremists. According to information reaching
the district police headquarters at Kakinada, the police party
was carrying on combing operations in the interior area when the
landmine, kept between Singavaram and Chintakarrapalem, was
blasted. One of the constables who died in the blast was
identified as Anjaiah.
