Asrian and Anastasian in joint lead
DUBAI, APRIL 19. Grandmaster Ashot Anastasian and Karen Asrian of
Armenia lead with three points at the end of the third round of
the Dubai Open chess championship, here on Thursday.
Both Asrian and Anastasian won their games played against Jobava
Baadur and Maxim Sorokin respectively. Anastasian stamped his
superior positional style of play in the opening, middle game and
endgame to out manovure GM Sorokin in a protracted battle.
Anastasian took space advantage from the middle game and he
outplayed his opponent with brilliant technical play. He then
engineered a breakthrough to overcome the blockade and went on to
clinch the issue.
