4 hurt in attack on APHC office

SRINAGAR, APRIL 23. A grenade blast rocked the headquarters of the 23- member All-Party Hurriyat Conference at Rajbagh here today as the APHC leaders met to firm up a response to the Centre's offer of talks with all Kashmiri groups. Four persons were injured the explosion caused when three scooter-borne youths hurled a grenade into the complex.

Later, a visibly upset APHC chairman, Mr. Abdul Ghani Bhat, said, ``the Hurriyat Conference cannot be bogged down by grenade attacks nor will the designs of some vested interests be allowed to succeed.''

Two little-known militant outfits - Mujahideen-e-Haq and Al-Qasas - separately claimed responsibility for the attack expressing their opposition to the Centre's offer.

Decision on Thursday

The Hurriyat executive council which met for five hours behind close doors failed to take a decision on the offer of talks. Refusing to reveal what transpired at the meeting. Mr. Bhat said, ``we have heard the views and opinion of the executive council - the highest decision making body of the alliance parties - and will meet shortly to take a final decision. A top source in the APHC later said the executive would meet again on Thursday.
