13 killed in poll violence
PATNA, APRIL 30. At least 13 persons including a homeguard were
killed and several others injured as violence erupted once again
during the sixth and final phase of panchayat polls today taking
the toll in the long-drawn election to 79. The overall turnout
was 65 to 70 per cent.
While Gaya alone accounted for five deaths, three people were
killed in a bomb explosion in Nawada, two in Jamui and one each
in Goplaganj, Muzaffarpur and Madhepura. Three persons including
a grandson of a Mukhiya candidate, Mr. Sital Singh, were killed
while allegedly making bombs in naxal-hit Nawada district.
Fourteen persons including Mr. Singh were arrested, the Director-
General of Police, Mr. R.R. Prasad, said.Two persons were killed
in police firing at separate places in Gaya district during
voting, and three members of a minority community were killed in
clash with rival group of people at Sahdeokhap, also in Gaya
district. A homeguard, Mr. Sitaram Paswan, was killed when anti-
socials attacked a booth under Aliganj block in Jamui.
