HYDERABAD, APRIL 30. The State has recorded the highest-ever pass
percentage of 65.11, marking an increase of 10.63 per cent over
that of last year, in the SSC public examination held in March
this year.
Releasing the results at a press conference here on Monday, the
Minister for School Education, Mr. K. Srihari, described the
improvement as ``very significant.'' He attributed it to close
monitoring and supervisory studies imparted to children.
Private candidates registered a pass percentage of 39.86, an
increase of 33 per cent. Prakasam district retained its number
one position with 82.45 per cent as against 70.71 per cent last
year, closely followed by Warangal, recording an impressive 80.55
per cent from 46.41 per cent last year. Cuddapah recorded the
lowest at 50.55 per cent. For the first time, all the districts
crossed the 50 per cent mark.
The performance of other districts is as follows: Hyderabad
(59.76 per cent), Ranga Reddy (66.38), Srikakulam (65.45),
Vizianagaram (62.54), Visakhapatnam (64.04), East Godavari
(60.78), West Godavari (67.03), Krishna (63.71), Guntur (66.73),

The Minister was all praise for officials who, he said, had
worked hard to ensure that the results could be announced in 30
days. Supplementary examination would be held between May 25 and
June 9. Spot valuation would be taken up from June 12 to June 20
and the results would be announced in the first week of July.
This way students would not lose an academic year, he said.
Citing other highlights, he said that the number of schools which
showed 100 per cent results had risen up to 303 from 170 last
year. Likewise, the number of schools which showed zero per cent
results had come down to 27 from 68 last year. Among the regular
candidates, girls achieved 0.86 per cent points higher than boys
while among private candidates it was 6.63 per cent higher. Those
present at the press conference included the Secretary for School
Education, Mr. N. V. Subba Rao, and the Director of Government
Examinations, Mr. T. D. Prasada Rao. A large number of students
were waiting anxiously before the Indira Priyadarshini Hall in
Public Gardens.
