EDS's new facility at Tidel Park

CHENNAI, APRIL 30. Electronic Data Systems India (EDS), a wholly
owned subsidiary of EDS Corporation of the U.S., has opened its
new facility at Tidel Park, Chennai. The facility, spread across
89,000 sq.ft., is the company's fourth in the country and the
third in Chennai.
Inaugurating the facility on Saturday, Mr. Scott Ayer, General
Manager, EDS Asia Pacific Solutions Centres, told presspersons
that the world class infrastructure available at Tidel Park would
help the company in providing end-to-end scalable solutions from
board-room to back office to domestic and global customers.
EDS had four decades of experience and expertise to work with
businesses and governments in providing information solutions,
management consulting, enterprise solutions and business process
management, he said.
EDS, with its management consulting subsidiary, A.T. Kearney, was
serving more than 9,000 clients in 55 countries with a workforce
of 1.25 lakh employees. He said the U.S. slowdown had made
companies there to increase their investments in Asia Pacific.
EDS has actually grown more than 19 per cent and contract
signings were up by 67 per cent in the first quarter of this
year. Last year was one of the best with major new contracts such
as $6.9 billion contract for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. In
2000 the company reported revenues of $19.2 billion.
Mr. Ram Seshadri, managing director, EDS India, said the Indian
operations were being expanded to support the growing global
business needs of the company.
The Tidel Park facility would have 650 software professionals
while the other EDS facilities in India have around 600
employees. Mr. Seshadri said 90 per cent of EDS India's
operations was meant for overseas markets.
EDS began its operations in India in 1995 with focus on banking,
financial services, insurance, automobile, healthcare and
transport industries.
It provides business development project management services to
Shonkh Technologies. It also works with reputed corporates such
as Reliance Petrochemicals, ICICI, Caltex, Duracell, GM and
Delphi.
