'Left Front in a decisive position'
Guwahati, April 30. CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan today said
the Left Front in Assam would be in a decisive position in the
coming May 10 Assembly polls, and accused the new AGP-BJP
alliance of being opportunistic and held Congress responsible for
the State's ills.
Talking to reporters here, Bardhan said the people of Assam --
disillusioned with the AGP, BJP and Congress -- were now thinking
of giving the Left and secular front a chance.
The newly formed Left and secular front in the State comprises
the CPI, CPM (both were alliance partners in the AGP-led
Government till it befriended the BJP), United Minorities Front
(UMF) and Samajwadi Party.
He also alleged that the AGP-BJP poll alliance was between two
"desperate, frustrated and opportunistic parties" with the
regional party needing a strong ally after realising its hopes of
coming back to power very little.
