Directive on car seat belts
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, MAY 3. All motor vehicles to be manufactured after
October 2002 have to be equipped with safety belts for rear seats
as well. The Centre has already mandated seat belts for the front
seats.
While deciding on making it mandatory for the manufacturers to
provide seat belts for rear seats too, the Road Transport
Ministry has said that both the Central and State Governments
were also empowered under the MV Act to restrict the speed of a
vehicle.
