'Jayalalitha cannot be compared with Kamaraj'

By Our Special Correspondent

MADURAI, MAY 3. It is not fair to compare the AIADMK general secretary, Ms. Jayalalitha, with former Chief Ministers Kamaraj and C. N. Annadurai, according to Mr. S. Thirunavukkarasu, the MGR-ADMK leader.

Talking to newsmen after making a ``courtesy call'' on the TMC president, Mr. G. K. Moopanar, here today, Mr. Thirunavukkarasu said the late leaders had not been convicted for corruption charges and Ms. Jayalalitha could not contest the election precisely on this count.

He pooh-poohed the pre-election opinion polls which predicted a massive victory for the AIADMK-led front by stating that they did not reflect the mind of the people but that of those conducting them.

He said that the AIADMK-led front was not secular in nature as the AIADMK and PMK had supported the BJP at one time.

Mr. Thirunavukkarasu said the nominations of the AIADMK leader were rejected legally and comparing the case of Ms. Jayalalitha with that of Mr. Balakrishna Pillai, a sitting MLA, in Kerala was a ``false propaganda''.

As per law, Ms. Jayalalitha could not contest elections for a period of six years, he said.
