Human Rights Party quits third front

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, MAY 3. The Human Rights Party of India has withdrawn from the third front led by Mr. K. Rajaram and decided to support the AIADMK front in the ensuing Assembly election in the State.

The party president, Mr. L. Elayaperumal, addressing mediapersons today, said the decision was taken at the high power committee meeting held here on Tuesday.

Mr. Elayaperumal, who had been a supporter of the DMK for nearly a decade, charged that the DMK Government failed to fulfill the promises it had made to the party. Alleging that the Government had neglected the interests of the SCs, he said in all these five years he could only extract assurances from the Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi. As the party had lost its faith in the DMK Government, it decided to give a chance to the AIADMK, which had assured to consider their demands sympathetically.

Referring to his association with the third front for a short duration, he said, such a front had no future in the State. At the most, the third front could spoil the chances of candidates belonging to the `secular front'.
