Deendar Anjuman to challenge ban

By B. Muralidhar Reddy

ISLAMABAD, MAY 6. Deendar Anjuman, which has been declared unlawful by the Centre, has decided to challenge the ban in a court of law.

The chief of the organisation, Syed Zia-ul Hasan, told a news conference here today that the decision by the BJP-led Government to ban his organisation was a conspiracy to `exterminate' minorities and establish Hindu `rashtra'.

The allegations against his organisation were totally `baseless and motivated' and were aimed at defaming the minorities in India. Syed Zia-ul Hasan claimed that the Deendar Anjuman had been functioning in complete harmony with all sections of society since 1924 and it had never been engaged in any undesirable activities.

The Deendar Anjuman's basic objective was to preach the teachings of Islam, and the BJP Government was just not prepared to tolerate any religion other than Hinduism.

He said that the charges made by the police that his organisation was involved in the Karnataka bomb blasts in July last year were baseless. He claimed that the police had not yet succeeded in proving anything against his organisation.

Syed Zia-ul Hasan said if his organisation did not get a `favourable verdict' from the judiciary in India, it would consider approaching the United Nations Security Council. ``We will take our case to the international community''.

Asked why the press conference was being held here, the Deendar chief said that since the Indian Government had linked his outfit to Pakistan, it deemed it necessary to explain the facts to the people of Pakistan.
