New Governors for Sikkim, Mizoram

NEW DELHI, MAY 8. The Vajpayee Government today announced three gubernatorial appointments in Sikkim, Mizoram and Andaman and Nicobar.

The senior BJP leader, Mr. Kidar Nath Sahani, has been appointed Governor of Sikkim. He has held high positions in the party and was looking after its affairs in Jammu and Kashmir till a few years ago. He was also the Chief Executive Councillor, Delhi. Mr. Sahani will take over from Chaudhary Randhir Singh whose term has expired.

Mr. Amolak Rattan Kohli is the new Governor of Mizoram. A former adviser to the Mizo leader, Mr. Laldenga, Mr. Kohli headed the Rehabilitation Industries Corporation. Mr. N. N. Jha, former Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka and convener of the BJP's foreign cell, has been named Lieutenant-Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

Mr. Arvind Dave, Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, has been asked to discharge additional duties of the Governor of Nagaland, during the absence on leave of Mr. O. P. Sharma, Nagaland Governor.
