Preparing for school time

KOCHI, MAY. 8. June is the month of school reopening and May is time for preparing for another academic year. Students and parents have slowly started the hunt for bags, notebooks, umbrellas etc. Though the reopening of schools is weeks ahead, preparations are on for attending school.

The markets are also gearing up to meet the demands of the students. The "School Mela 2001" organised by the Khadi and Village Industries Board, aims to provide quality items school at reasonable prices.

Competition is also intense with both big and small manufacturers of school items vying for a space in the market. The Khadi items are popular on account of the traditional style of manufacturing using cheap and available raw materials.

The mela, currently on at the Durbar Hall ground, has showcased all required items for a school year. An annual affair, the Khadi school mela showcases items manufactured by its own wings and other small sector industrial units. The Khadi Board offers financial assistance to these small scale units.

Quality items at reasonable rates direct from the house of Khadi is the marketing tantra adopted at the school mela. The buyers enjoy the advantage of purchasing school items directly from the Khadi board.

They also do not have to bear the additional rates charged by the retailers.

The school mela held last year netted a business of about Rs. 5 lakhs. The board expects good sales this time too, thanks to its reputation. The mela will conclude on May 10.
