Repoll sought in West constituency
By Our Staff Reporter
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, MAY 11. An aggrieved citizen who was denied
voting right in spite of possessing an identity card during the
Assembly elections on Thursday has, in a petition, urged the
Chief Election Commission of India to order a repoll in the
Thiruvananthapuram West constituency.
Mr. Dileep Pillai, Supreme Court advocate, his wife and mother
had not been allowed to vote as their names were missing from the
final voter's list at Booth No. 16, St. Joseph's School. The
petition urged the CEC to stay the declaration of the results of
the election held for the Thiruvananthapuram West Assembly seat.
The petitioner appealed to the CEC to institute a repoll by
restoring the three names in the electoral roll and permitting
them to cast their votes in the interest of justice as enshrined
under Article 324 (1) and (4) of the Constitution of India.
