A DECADE and a half ago, a mouse meant Micky Mouse and computers
were something which only the technically qualified people worked
on. These days computer training starts young, very young, right
from the time a child learns to walk, perhaps even before they
can talk coherently!
And, parents are constantly on the lookout for the right course
for their wards which would make computer learning a more
stimulating exercise and help in the overall development of their
wards' personality.
`Kids Online', a city-based organisation, claims to have
formulated a specialised computer programme of learning computers
with fun "to unleash the cyber power in the child". The programme
is suitable for children of different age groups (two years to 15
and above) and varied psychologies for developing their academic
and computer skills, besides making them Net savvy too, according
to Renu Sekhar, Programme Director.
The programme has six regular modules as in - `Jump Start', where
a child is taught about the software and hardware basics and an
introduction to the worldwide web. Through `Star Trek', the child
is taken into the far-away galaxies and our very own solar
system, getting an insight into space and beyond.
While they are at it, they are made familiar with the word
processing, e-mail and accessing information from the Net. The
amazing world of animals is brought forth in the `Wildlife
Adventure', downloading images of animals and knowing their
habits plus habitats.
There is `Math-a-Magic', `Rhythm and Blues' (Becoming a
`Napsterian') and `Design Studio' where the child gets to know
the concepts of computing, flow charting, surfing and ability to
design.
There are other exclusive summer packages like `Young Scientists'
(4-8t years), `Creative Eye' (4-8 years and 9-14 years), `Wonders
of the World' (4-8 years), `Web Masters (9-15 years), `Small
Wonders' (3-4 years), `Mask' (4-8 years) and `Net Crackers' (5-8
years and 9-14 years) - these are of 10 days duration and deal
with word processing, web page designing, morphing, browsing,
etc. Interested? Contact on phone Nos. - 6219757/7813775.
