Colorsoft to market optical products

NEW DELHI, MAY 12. Colorsoft India has become the first company in the organised sector to market optical and vision care products. According to the company's Managing Director, Dr. Hardeep Singh, the company will initially distribute a range of products from Centrostyle, Cooper Vision, Serengeti, Harley and Davidson and United Colors of Benetton.

The products which have been introduced or will soon be launched are sunglasses, vision accessories, eyewear products, spectacle frames and soft contact lenses.

Dr. Singh told The Hindu that the optical sector is divided into three broad sub-segments. These are eyewear including sunglasses and spectacle frames, vision care covering contact lenses and various solutions as well as corrective care covering ophthalmic glasses.

The total market for the entire optical sector is estimated at Rs. 400 crores of which ophthalmic glasses command the largest market share of about Rs. 250 crores. Of this only Rs. 50 crores is in the organised sector while the rest of the ophthalmic glasses market is in the unorganised sector.

In the case of contact lenses, the organised sector accounts for a market of Rs. 50 crores while another Rs. 20 crores is in the unorganised sector.

The branded eyewear market, on the other hand, has a market of about Rs. 100 crores, according to rough industry estimates.

Dr. Singh said Colorsoft was positioning itself as the first procurement and marketing agency in the country to serve consumers in India, Bangladesh and Nepal with a wide variety of branded products in sunglasses, frames, eye accessories and contacts segment in the ultra premium range.

The Colorsoft CEO said the company was now working towards achieving ISO 9001 certification for their range of products. Currently, the company has exclusive distribution rights for Benetton Eyewear, as well as of Cooper Vision's Silver O7 contact lenses. It also exclusively represents Centrostyle, a Italian optical accessories company, he said.
