Jayalalitha a brave woman, says Laloo
By Our Staff Correspondent
PATNA, MAY 15. The RJD president, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav, today
welcomed the appointment of Ms. Jayalalitha as Chief Minister of
Tamil Nadu, but ruled out the possibility of his following suit
in Bihar.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Yadav maintained that Ms. Jayalalitha
had received the mandate to grace the post and that she had not
forcibly grabbed it; nor was her appointment unconstitutional.
Describing her as a brave woman, Mr. Yadav lashed out against
those who opposed her appointment and accused her detractors for
having no faith in the people or the Constitution.
Mr. Yadav said that the people's verdict was the Constitution and
that the law only required that she get herself elected to the
Assembly within six months of her taking oath of office.
Thanking the former Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, for his
concern, Mr. Yadav, said that his objective was not to become
Chief Minister again. He said the people's mandate was for Ms.
Rabri Devi and that there was nothing much to be gained even
otherwise as his party happened to be in power. He said his main
concern was to oust the BJP-led Government in Delhi.
