Two naxalites killed in blast

KARIMNAGAR, MAY 23. Two naxalites belonging to the CPI-ML Janashakti faction were killed when they went to blast a telephone exchange in Avunuru village of Mustabad mandal in the early hours of Wednesday. The telephone exchange was destroyed in the blast.

According to the Superintendent of Police, Mr. R. S. Praveen Kumar, three armed naxalites went on a motor cycle to the telephone exchange, which was housed in a rented building, and woke up neighbours to move out of the place as they wanted to blast the exchange.

Two naxalites went inside and planted gelatin on the equipment. Suddenly, the explosives went off and the two were killed and the telephone exchange was destroyed. Property worth Rs. 11 lakhs was damaged in the blast.

The naxalites have been identified as Parusharamulu dalam member and Lingam alias John, CO of Janashakti. The police recovered one 9 mm carbine and a .30 carbine, which were snatched from the police some time ago. The third naxalite escaped from the scene leaving the motor cycle.

Three extremists surrender

Meanwhile, three naxalites - two women cadres, belonging to the People's War Group, and a CPI-ML Janashakti group district committee member - surrendered before the Superintendent of Police here.

Bejjala Bharathi alias Jyothi, who worked as dalam member of Manthani and Kodimial LGS of PWG, joined the party one and a half years ago. She had taken part in several offences including blasting a landmine on the police party at Dubbalapadu during the general election in September, 1999. She escaped an exchange of fire in Maddimalla forests in 2000.

Sakinala Sarala, LGS member of Yellareddy of Nizamabad district, joined the party in 1995 and worked with Sircilla PWG dalam for about two months. She participated in the killing of Uthunuru Pentaiah of Banswada area and was involved in some other offences in Nizamabad district.

The CPI-ML Janashakti DCM, Gurrapu Yellam alias Mahesh, formerly CO of Manair dalam and now promoted as DCM to Warangal, was the third to surrender. He joined the party eight years ago and for a long time was commander of Manair area. He was involved in several offences including murder.

Talking to newsmen, the Janashakti DCM said that the Janashakti group naxalites had decided to launch armed struggle. The surrendered naxalites said the naxalite movement had lost its ideology.
