IED blasts leave 5 CRPF men dead
By Shujaat Bukhari
SRINAGAR, MAY 25. In a string of blasts across Jammu and Kashmir
at least five CRPF men were killed and nine others injured, some
of them seriously. This is the first major strike after the
Centre called off the unilateral ceasefire in Jammu and Kashmir
on Wednesday.
Reports said a Central Reserve Police Force vehicle, on its way
from Sudh Mahadev to Chenani in Udhampur district, was hit by an
improvised explosive device (IED) early Friday morning.
Confirming the death of five CRPF jawans in the blast, the
Director-General of Police, Mr. A.K. Suri, said that an IED
planted by militants on Sudh Mahadev Road, 115 km from Jammu, was
detonated by a remote-control device.
The pro-Pakistan Hizb-ul-Mujahideen owned up the attack and
claimed that 12 CRPF soldiers had been killed.
In Trisal Pulwama, South Kashmir, an IED went off near a BSF
camp. One jawan was seriously injured. Another IED was defused by
the BSF personnel. A soldier was injured in an IED blast at
Dardpora Lolab, Kupwara district, police said.
