MSR, YSR agree to work together
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, MAY 25. The APCC president, Mr.M. Satyanarayana Rao
and the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), Dr.Y.S.
Rajasekhara Reddy, have pledged to work together and ensure
perfect coordination between the PCC and CLP in all agitational
programmes against ``anti-people measures '' of the Government.
At a felicitation function for Mr. Rao at Gandhi Bhavan, they
regretted ``attempts'' by some leaders in the party to drive a
wedge between them and create ``differences'' between the PCC and
the CLP.
Mr. Satyanarayana Rao said there had been some communication gap
between him and Dr. Reddy of late but it would be sorted out.
Some party leaders were trying to create a rift between him and
Dr. Reddy ``but they would not succeed,'' he said.
He had also referred to the ``trials'' of other leaders to get
him replaced. ``I don't care as I have the blessings of the party
president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi,'' he said.
Dr. Rajasekhara Reddy said he had no groups in the party but
resented the ``negative'' attitude of some seniors ``who would
not like their followers even to meet others not so favourably
disposed towards them.''
The CLP leader said the party was strong in the State as it had
secured 43 per cent of vote while the Congress in Karnataka could
come to power with 38 per cent vote. He disputed the argument
that the agitation of the party against the power tariff hike was
a failure. ``Some had even alleged match-fixing between me and
the Chief Minister, Mr.N. Chandrababu Naidu, on this count.'' But
the party had been able to take the issue to the people and the
Government was therefore afraid of holding the panchayat
elections, he said.
Mrs Sarojini Pulla Reddy, CWC member, urged partymen to
strengthen the hands of Ms. Sonia Gandhi under whose leadership
the party had a bright future.
Mr.G. Venkataswamy, convener, the AICC SC/ST cell, who presided,
said Mr. Satyanarayana Rao would continue as PCC president till
the next elections.
Mr.T. Subbirami Reddy, convener AICC media cell, Mr. Dasari
Narayana Rao, MP, Mr.G. Venkat Reddy, former Minister, Dr.P.
Shankar Rao, deputy leader of the CLP, and others spoke.
The function was organised to mark completion of one year by Mr.
Rao as PCC president.
