By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, MAY 25. The State Government has sanctioned 140 Government junior colleges in mandals where there is none and will be notifying for 240 more private colleges.

Addressing a press conference, Mr.K. Ramachandra Rao, Minister for Higher Education here on Friday, said that there were in all 380 mandals without junior colleges -- Government, aided or private.

Of the 140 sanctioned, 120 would begin from this academic year and 20 more, from the next year. Of those this year 28 colleges were going to be in tribal areas. To encourage setting up of private colleges, incentives like 50 per cent off on corpus fund and land at market price would be given. The managements would also be entitled for Rs.1,000 per student per year for the next three batches.

The Minister denied any allegations in the selection of language books for the first year intermediate courses. He said the Board of Intermediate had taken a decision to revise syllabus and textbooks for language subjects. Subject committees had been constituted for the purpose of revision of syllabus.

He said there was no deviation from tradition and all procedures would remain the same. Printing of science books had been undertaken by the Telugu Akademi and they were ready. The printing work of language books would be entrusted to the Akademi once they were finalised, he said.

The Minister said that Intermediate final results would be published only after the EAMCET-2001 is held. There should not be any undue delay and the results must be out before month-end, he said.
