Wasim, Waqar rout Leicestershire
By P. Subramanyam
LONDON, MAY 25. Pakistan captain Waqar Younis performed a hat-
trick as the tourists destroyed Leicestershire County Cricket
Club's batting on the first morning of the four-day Vodafone
Challenge Series Trophy at Grace Road in Leicester on Thursday.
Electing to bat, the host faced a hostile attack and lost two
wickets for no score on the board and then collapsed to 41 for
five with Wasim Akram picking four of those wickets.
Then Younis, in a fiery spell, dismissed N. Burns, P. Defreitas,
and O. Banks to send the score to seven for 41. The host was
finally dismissed for 96 with only I. Sutcliffe standing up with
a well-made 55. In reply, Pakistan made 201 for three at close
with Faisal Iqbal batting on 81 and Yousuf Youhana unbeaten on
38.
The scores: Leicestershire CC 96 (I.J. Sutcliffe 55, Waqar Younis
five for 23 (including hat-trick), Wasim Akram four for 19) vs
Pakistan 201 for three (Faisal Iqbal 81 batting, Yousuf Youhana
38 batting, Inzamam-ul-Haq 36, Mohd. Wasim 36).
