Foul play in rice sale by FCI in Bihar suspected

PATNA, MAY 26. The Bihar Minister of State for Rural Development, Ravindra Nath Mishra, today alleged large-scale bungling by Bihar zone officials of Food Corporation of India in bidding for sale of rice and demanded a CBI inquiry into it.

Challenging the entire bidding process, Mr.Mishra alleged that a section of FCI officials had allowed a Kolkata- based agency to lift rice at the rate of Rs.105 per quintal, which was the lowest bid. The lifting of rice from various godowns should have been awarded to the highest bidder of Rs.380 per quintal.

Alleging foul play leading to bungling of crores of rupees in the deal, he urged the Prime Minister, Mr.Atal Bihari Vajpayee, to order a CBI probe into the incident.

He accused a section of FCI officials of abetting sale of sub- standard rice declared damaged in the open market in gross violation of stipulated norms.
