Naidu confident of TDP facing challenges successfully
By Our Special Correspondent
HYDERABAD, MAY 31. The TDP president, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu,
asserted that his party would squarely face challenges from
various quarters and emerge a winner from all these engagements.
In an apparent reference to the challenges posed by the demand
for separate Telangana which, he did not, however mention, he
said the party had never tasted defeat in the recent past and
would not succumb in future because it was trying to do good to
the people.
The TDP president was addressing party functionaries after
administering an oath to members of the newly-appointed politburo
and the State executive committee at the NTR Memorial Trust here
on Thursday. Clad in yellow dress, the new office-bearers pledged
to serve the party and the people with sincerity and dedication.
Mr. Naidu said the Telugu Desam had earned a special identity in
Indian politics when many parties lacked cohesive leadership. The
Congress was a confused party whose influence was restricted to a
few States reducing it to the status of a regional party.
Defending the economic reforms pursued by his Government, he said
the Congress was putting hurdles in its path. The Congress was in
the habit of pursuing one line in States like Karnataka and
Maharashtra where it was in power and speak in a different voice
in other States. It would have to pay a heavy price for its
attempts to mislead people because credibility was important in
politics.
The TDP, he said, was playing a positive role in the NDA and
keeping away from political controversies. In supporting the NDA
from outside, its aim was to further the interests of the State
by implementing schemes useful to the people.
He explained that the oath-taking ceremony was aimed to
displaying to people the party's commitment to servicing the
people. He reminded the new office-bearers that the innovative
politics practiced by the TDP must be coupled with moral values
and principles.
Speaking about organisational issues, he said the performance of
the 4,500-odd members of the TDP's general body would be
continuously monitored through training programmes. Those who
were not upto the mark would be encouraged to improve their
performance but, if they did not learn any lessons, the party
would have no hesitation in parting company with them.
Later, at a meeting with his new team, Mr. Naidu exhorted party
leaders to prepare for the panchayat elections and to motivate
the cadre. He suggested starting training programmes for partymen
at regional centres like Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Tirupati,
Warangal, etc. He indicated that the office-bearers of the
affiliated organisations would be finalised before the next
meeting of the State executive on June 11.
