Two held, `instant' lotteries seized

BANGALORE, MAY 31. The City Crime Branch (CCB) Police on
Wednesday raided two gambling centres in S.J.Park and K.G.Halli
police limits in the City where the banned ``instant'' lotteries
were being run.
Police arrested Subramani, alias Mani, who was running
``instant'' lottery on Mission Road and seized lottery tickets
worth Rs.44,000 from him. A case has been registered with the
S.J.Park Police in this regard.
Similarly, the CCB officials seized lottery tickets worth
Rs.6,000 and Rs.8,000 in cash by arresting Selvam, who was
running the banned lottery near Periyar Circle in K.G.Halli
Police limits, police said.
Arrested
A special police team of the West Division has arrested the main
accused in the murder of the notorious gangster, Thammaiah, alias
Narasimha Murthy. Thammaiah was done to death in Vijayanagar
Police limits on April 29.
Along with the key accused, Soori, alias Suresh, alias
Thimmenahalli Soori, (24) of Govindarajnagar, police have also
arrested Muruga, alias Murugan, (23) of Byatarayanapura, Ravi,
alias Mobile Ravi, (24) of Ramappa Layout and B.N.Ravi Kumar
(28).
Police have seized lethal weapons, mobile phones, pagers, a van
and a car from the accused who were arrested from a dabha near
Bangalore University on Mysore Road.
According to police, there are nine criminal cases relating to
murder, attempt to murder, extortion, robbery and rioting against
Soori with Vijayanagar Police.
Similarly, eight criminal cases are pending against Muruga with
Byatarayanapura and Banashankari police, while Ravi is accused in
four criminal cases.
Raids
The West Division Police raided a large number of wine shops,
bars and restaurants in its jurisdiction on Wednesday and booked
57 cases for violations under the Excise Act.
In a special drive, police also booked 34 persons on charges of
eve-teasing. As many as 35 cases were registered against foot-
path hawkers.
As many as four anti-social elements, eight people who were
moving in a suspicious manner and nine persons who were earlier
involved in theft cases were also arrested during the special
drive, according to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Mr.
U.Nissar Ahmed, who led the raid teams.
