Cosmic energy of the eclipse

A TOTAL eclipse of the Sun occurs just hours after the Summer Solstice on Thursday, June 21. This remarkable celestial event occurs every 19 years on the first day of the Summer Solstice.

Summer officially begins when the Sun appears to reach its most southern point in relation to the equator of the Earth. The Summer Solstice represents a dramatic bookend to the year along with the Winter Solstice, when we experience the greatest and least light because of the rotation of the Earth in reference to the Sun.

The great amount of sunlight shed upon the Northern Hemisphere at the Summer Solstice marks an important turning point in earthly affairs. The high volume of sunlight gives you a fresh infusion of energy and enthusiasm. It awakens the solar or fiery side of your own nature. Have you noticed that you need less sleep at the time of the Summer Solstice? And that you have the energy, drive and enthusiasm to attempt things you might avoid at other times of year? The days and hours leading up to the Summer Solstice offer you a chance to harness your energy to take a new course in your life. It is a law of physics that light is most powerful when it changes direction. The light of the Sun actually hits the Earth at a new angle at the moment of the Summer Solstice. Thus, you have an important opportunity to focus the light and energy of the Sun on your new ideas, goals, aspirations and dreams.

Think about the things you would like to manifest as you approach the Summer Solstice. Then, on Wednesday, June 20, the night before the Solstice, write down your goals and affirmations on a piece of paper. Put the paper in a special place. Take one symbolic action to anchor each of your thoughts, goals and desires in physical reality. Then, prepare to receive your blessings after the summer begins on June 21.

Next, be aware of the upcoming solar eclipse in Cancer. It will further energise your experience of the Summer Solstice. Eclipses heighten the prevailing mood. This eclipse occurs just four hours and 20 minutes after the Sun enters Cancer, the beginning of the summer season, and just 17 minutes after the Moon enters the sign of Cancer. The Moon will eclipse the view of the Sun on Thursday.

Whether or not you can physically see the Moon blocking the light of the Sun does not alter the tremendous impact it will have on you. The Moon represents feelings, and the Sun represents thoughts. During the moments of the eclipse, the energy of personal feelings and collective wishes will temporarily take precedence over the conscious will. The Cancer eclipse will affect issues of home, security, family, and feelings. You will most strongly feel the emotional effect of the eclipse from the time of the previous Full Moon on June 6 until the next Full Moon (which also is a Lunar Eclipse) on July 5. You will see the physical results falling into place for nearly six months following the eclipse, until the next New Moon Solar Eclipse occurs on December 14, in the sign of Sagittarius.

The last time a similar New Moon Solar Eclipse occurred was on June 21, 1982. This eclipse was responsible for the bull market in stocks that summer. This shifted people's source of "security" to the investment markets. The upcoming eclipse will challenge everyone to find a more meaningful and enduring source of "security." Mercury also will be retrograde in Gemini from June 4 to June 28. And Mars will be retrograde in Sagittarius for the entire month of June. The retrogrades will flavour the Summer Solstice and Eclipse with a sense that it is time to correct something that went awry in the past. A Mercury-Jupiter conjunction in Gemini on June 18 will help you think of creative solutions. Use this time to make two lists to improve your life. On one list, write the things that you would like to change. On the other, write the things you would like to do to make these changes happen. Make your lists with the assumption that you have the power to achieve anything you set your mind to.
