Govt. to take up Inchampally project soon
By Our Staff Reporter
POTHIREDDYPET (Karimnagar), JUNE 3. The Chief Minister, Mr. N.
Chandrababu Naidu, has reiterated that the Government is
committed to utilisation of surplus Godavari waters by taking up
lift irrigation schemes on the river.
Addressing a gram sabha in this interior village of Huzurabad
mandal in the afternoon, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu said the
foundation-stone for the Godavari lift irrigation scheme would be
laid this month and promised to strive for its early completion.
``Only during the Telugu Desam Party regime projects meant for
the utilisation of Godavari waters would be possible'', he noted.
The SRSP Flood Flow canal project work would be taken up at the
earliest, he said adding that the Government would take up the
prestigious Inchampally project as neighbouring Maharashtra had
agreed to the construction of the project at a height of 95
metres.
With regard to SRSP phase I works, he said during its five-year
regime (1995-2001) the TDP Government had allocated Rs. 900
crores as against Rs. 900 crores allocated between 1963 and 1995.
He said following high allocations and constitution of WUAs and
distributory committees the Government had ensured an increase in
the ayacut from 2.5 lakh acres to 9.25 lakh acres in the region.
Without referring to Telangana, the Chief Minister said his
Government was laying emphasis on the development of backward
regions by allocating more funds for the education, health,
irrigation sectors and laying roads in interior areas. He said
they were striving hard for removing poverty in the region. ``If
during the past 50 years they had allocated more funds as was
being done during last five years the region would have developed
long ago'', he pointed out.
Mr. Naidu said the Government was taking all steps to ensure
development of the region educationally by allocating junior
college to each and every mandal. He said the Government had
sanctioned 558 primary schools to Karimnagar district and
upgraded 254 upper primary schools. He announced Rs. 50 lakhs for
laying a road from Pothireddypet village to Jammikunta.
Expressing satisfaction over the good performance of self-help
group movement in Karimnagar where about 21,600 groups have a
revolving fund of Rs. 80 crores, the Chief Minister complimented
the district administration for empowerment of women by issuance
of sub-dealership of various private companies' products. He
lauded the district for saving about Rs. 25 crores worth power by
using energy-saving compact flouroscent lamps. He urged women to
produce their own products and market them all over the State.
The Minister for Tourism, Mr. E. Peddi Reddy, the legislators,
Mr. M. Damodar Reddy, Mr. S. Devaiah, Mr. K. Devender Rao, the
Peddapalli MP, Mrs. Suguna Kumari, the Collector, Mrs. Sumita
Dawra, the village sarpanch, Mrs. Lavanya and others were
present.
