Girls outsmart boys in Inter exam

HYDERABAD, JUNE 6. The saga of girls outshining boys continued in
the Intermediate second year results too as they registered a
significantly high pass percentage of 45.40 per cent as against
37.20 among boys. The overall pass percentage of all candidates
was 40.30.
Releasing the results amidst high drama here on Wednesday, the
Secretary, Higher Education, Mr. K. Sudheer, said that the pass
percentage declined marginally this year, registering 48.80 among
regular candidates as against 49 per cent during the previous
year.
A total of 4,60,585 candidates appeared for the examination of
which 3,34,735 candidates were regular and the remaining appeared
in private. Among the regular candidates 1,63,541 students
cleared the examination. Among the private candidates only 22,081
candidates passed registering a very low percentage of 17.50. In
vocational courses, 3,573 candidates cleared the examination out
of the total 14,516 appeared. The pass percentage was 30.80.
An interesting aspect of the results was that the maximum number
of students passed in first division. As many as 1,09,192
candidates got first division and 40,582 passed in the second
division while only 21,949 students figured in the third
division.
Krishna district continued its good performance bagging the top
place with 65.65 pass percentage while Mahabubnagar district
finished at the bottom with a pass percentage of 25.40. Ranga
Reddy district stood second with 62.60 per cent while Guntur
district figured in the third position with 58.77 per cent.
The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) Secretary, Dr. M.
Srinivasa Rao, said the memorandum of marks would be despatched
to the Regional Inspection Officers before June 10. Students can
obtain the memorandum of marks from June 11. Any discrepancies
should be referred to the board before June 20. Applications
received after that would not be entertained.
Candidates desirous of applying for recounting of marks should
send their applications with all the particulars to the BIE
office before June 20. Applications should be addressed to the
Joint Secretary (Exams) II, Board of Intermediate Education,
Nampally. Recounting fee of Rs. 100 per paper should be sent in
the form of a Demand Draft along with the applications.
Dr. Srinivasa Rao said that the advanced supplementary
examinations would start on July 2 and finish on July 9.
Practical examinations would be conducted from June 27. The time
table had been released. They would be available in the colleges.
Second year students who fail in four or less subjects would be
allowed to sit for the supplementary examinations while first
year students can take the examination even if they fail in all
subjects. Students who were not permitted to appear in March 2001
due to late admissions can also sit for these examinations.
As many as eight telephone lines have been dedicated for the
Interactive Voice Response System. Students can dial up 4756832,
4756833, 4756834, 4751172, 4751178, 4751191, 4756587 and 4752527
and know the results.
Exam fee hiked
The BIE has hiked the examination fee for the advancement
supplementary examinations. Students taking the examinations
pertaining to first year or second year have to pay Rs. 150
irrespective of the number of papers. Students taking
examinations of both first and second year irrespective of the
number of papers should pay Rs. 300. Students taking only
practical examinations have to pay Rs. 150.
Students appearing for practical examination along with theory
papers of second year have to pay Rs. 200. First year students
wishing to appear for improvement would have to pay Rs. 150 plus
Rs.20 for each paper.
