Elan Electronics in pact with Vivek
By Our Corporate Reporter
CHENNAI, JUNE 6. Elan Electronics India, a fully owned subsidiary
of the Elan group of Singapore, has entered into a tie-up with
the Chennai based Vivek Limited, to market JVC's range of Hi-Fi
systems in Tamil Nadu.
Elan group is one of the largest marketers of consumer electronic
products in Europe, Far East, Africa and West Asia.
Addressing presspersons here today, Mr. Rakesh Tandon, senior
vice president, Elan Electronics, said the JVC products would be
sold across Vivek's showrooms in the State. He said discussions
were also on with Vivek to market these products through the
latter's showrooms in Karnataka also.
Mr. Tandon said Tamil Nadu was the one of the biggest markets for
Hi-Fi systems and JVC hoped to garner 15-20 per cent market share
in the State.
Elan has already launched the JVC range of car audio systems in
India. The products are imported in SKD (semi-knocked down) packs
and assembled at the Daman unit. The company is also looking at
the possibility of setting up a manufacturing unit in Chennai.
Depending on the business potential, it has also plans to put up
units in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh (Noida) besides one more unit in
Daman or Silvassa.
Mr. B.A. Kodandarama Setty, chairman and managing director of
Vivek, said the company had a total of 40 outlets - 19 under
Vivek brand and 19 under Jainsons brand. Five years ago, Vivek
had acquired the Jainsons brand. Recently, it has bought two
showrooms from a leading dealer in Salem. The objective of the
acquisition was to become a big retail chain in South India, Mr.
Setty said.
