PM takes a walk
MUMBAI, JUNE 12. The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee,
recuperating after a right knee joint surgery, today undertook a
prolonged walk up and down the seventh floor corridor of the
Breach Candy Hospital. He was expected to take the support of a
walker for a few more days, hospital sources said.
Mr. Vajpayee continued with his physiotherapy sessions even as
the orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Chittaranjan Ranawat, said he was
making ``satisfactory'' recovery after the June 7 surgery.
The Prime Minister browsed through ``routine files'' and was in
pleasant mood watching television and reading newspapers, a PMO
spokesperson said.
The BJP city unit chief, Mr. Vinod Tawde, said Mr. Vajpayee was
likely to be discharged by next week. Asked about the Prime
Minister's discharge at a function, Dr. Ranawat quipped: ``the
Prime Minister will decide and not the doctors''.
Mr. Vajpayee had a one-to-one meeting with the Shiv Sena supremo,
Mr. Bal Thackeray, for 20 minutes when the latter called on him.
Buddhist monks held a special service to pray for the speedy
recovery of the Prime Minister.
