Summit will figure in Sattar's talks with Bush
By B. Muralidhar Reddy
ISLAMABAD, JUNE 12. The Pakistan Foreign Minister, Mr. Abdul
Sattar, who has left on a trip to London and Washington, is
carrying a letter from the Pakistan military ruler, Gen. Pervez
Musharraf, to the U.S. President, Mr. George Bush.
A spokesman of the Pakistan Foreign Office told correspondents
that the letter underlines the desire of Pakistan to strengthen
its traditional ties with Washington.
The spokesman said that the proposed Summit meeting between Gen.
Musharraf and Mr. Vajpayee, nuclear non- proliferation, the
situation in Afghanistan and the lifting of U.S. sanctions would
top the agenda of his talks with the Bush Administration.
During his three-day stay in Washington beginning from June 17,
Mr. Sattar would meet the U.S. Secretary of State, Mr. Colin
Powell among other policy-makers.
The visit of Mr. Sattar to Washington is in response to an
invitation extended by the U.S.Secretary of State, Mr. Colin
Powell, for an exchange of views on matters of mutual interest
between the two countries.
Petition declined
The Pakistan Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to entertain a
constitutional petition seeking deletion of remarks, from a
judgment, against two judges of superior courts.
In its recent verdict the Supreme Court had quashed the lower
court judgment against the former Prime Minister, Mrs. Benazir
Bhutto, and ordered a re-trial in the case on the ground that the
judges who had convicted the former Prime Minister appeared to be
biased.
