Hint at new film policy for Kerala
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JUNE 12. The Government proposes to draw up a
new film policy, the Minister for Information and Parliamentary
Affairs, Mr. M. M. Hassan, said here on Tuesday.
The Minister told presspersons here today that a meeting of
representatives of the film industry and people's representatives
would be convened under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister,
Mr. A. K. Antony, to discuss the draft.
Mr. Hassan said that efforts would be made to get the production
of Malayalam movies shifted from Chennai to Thiruvananthapuram.
However, high production costs, which was a problem in Kerala,
need to be tackled to achieve this, he said.
Mr. Hassan said that discussions would be held with the Chief
Minister in the chair on revising the welfare programmes for
overseas Keralites and ensuring their participation in the
development of the State.
He said the Government proposed to examine whether the State
Film Development Corporation and the Centre for Development of
Imaging Technology had been misused for political purposes. The
facilities at the Chitranjali studio would be improved, he said.
The Public Relations Department would not spend on personal
publicity of Ministers. Such expenditure incurred during the LDF
rule would be scrutinised. A meeting of editors of major
newspapers and small newspapers would be held on June 26 and 28
respectively, he added.
