Manipur Assembly, Govt. buildings set on fire
Manipur today went up in flames with 13 people
killed and over 50 wounded in police firing as demonstrators
protesting the Naga ceasefire extension set ablaze the Assembly
and the Chief Minister's Secretariats and Government buildings,
leading to imposition of an indefinite curfew in three districts
on the last day of the 66-hour State bandh.
Centre finds itself in a bind
The Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, is
believed to have apprised the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari
Vajpayee, of the worsening situation in Manipur in the wake of
the Centre's decision to extend the ceasefire to all Naga-
inhabited areas in the northeast. For now the Centre finds itself
in a bind. The next step - perhaps a categorical and forceful
rejection of the concept of a ``greater Nagaland'' - would be
taken only after the Prime Minister returns to the capital on
Tuesday.
Summit likely in Agra
The summit meeting between the Pakistani
military ruler and Chief Executive, General Pervez Musharraf, and
the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, is expected between
July 14 and 16, according to the international news agency, AFP.
Ayodhya: CBI may file revision petition
The Central Bureau of Investigation is likely
to file a revision petition this week against the May 4 judgment
of the Special Court in Lucknow, putting on hold the trial of 21
accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case, including the Union
Ministers, Mr. L. K. Advani, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, and Ms. Uma
Bharti, several Shiv Sena and Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders.

giving final touches to Gen. Pervez Musharraf's visit here in
July, India's High Commissioner to Islamabad, Mr. Vijay Nambiar,

Bomb blast in Indian mission
A bomb blast rocked the Indian consulate
building in the Iranian city of Zahedan on Thursday last, causing
damage to its outer wall.
13 electrocuted in Bihar
About 13 persons, most of them children, were
electrocuted when they came in contact with a high-tension wire
at Gopalpur village in this district early today, police said.
The Senior Superintendent of Police, Mr. Sunil Kumar, told
reporters that the wire had snapped after a truck hit a pole and
overturned on Gaya-Patna road near Sampatchak last night.
Indian wheat rejected again
Yet another Indian wheat consignment, the
fourth in succession, has been rejected by Iraq, not on the
earlier ground of having inorganic matter, but for
``unsatisfactory fumigation'' resulting in the presence of
weevils.
