'Pratibha' awards to be presented today

HYDERABAD, JUNE 18. The "Pratibha" awards, given by the State
Government every year to students from class seven onwards, who
excel in public examinations and common entrance tests, will be
presented on Tuesday at the Lal Bahadur Stadium by the Chief
Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu. Justice Satyabrata Sinha,
Chief Justice of the A.P. High Court, will be the chief guest and
the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Mrs. K. Pratibha
Bharati, will attend as a special guest.
According to a press release issued by the Government today,
these awards were constituted in 1999 to promote quality and
excellence in education. This year 460 candidates of seventh
class common examination, 690 students in S.S.C. public
examination, 920 in Intermediate public examination, 20 in
sciences and 20 in humanities from all over the State will be
awarded a medal and certificate. This award includes a
scholarship to the awardee, who is required to maintain a first
division in subsequent examinations to continue getting the
scholarship.
Among every unit of 10 awardees from each district, one award
each is given to S.C., S.T., minority and physically handicapped,
two each to women, backward classes and open competition
candidates. Parents of the awardees have also been invited to
attend the function.
The Minister of Higher Education, Mr. K. Ramachandra Rao,
Minister for School Education, Mr. K. Srihari, Minister for
Municipal Administration and Minorities Welfare, Mr. N.M. Farooq,
Minister for Social Welfare, Mrs. K. Pushpaleela, Minister for
Tribal Welfare, Mrs. M. Manikumari, Minister for Backward Classes
Welfare, Mr. N. Narasimha Rao, and Mr. A. Rajendra Prasad,
Minister for Technical Education, will be guests of honour.
