Salim Malik's plea rejected
By Rizwan Ehsan Ali
ISLAMABAD, JUNE 18. A civil judge on Monday dismissed Salim
Malik's appeal against the Pakistan Cricket Board which imposed a
life ban and fine on former Pakistan Test captain.
Malik had filed an appeal against the Pakistan Cricket Board
which imposed a life ban on him from playing international
cricket and a fine of Rs. 1 million for his involvement in fixing
international matches.
Justice Malik Muhammad Qayyum, who conducted the inquiry into
Pakistan players involvement in match-fixing, had last year
recommended life bans and fines on Salim Malik and former Test
paceman Ata-ur Rehman.
On the recommendations of Qayyum, the board had also fined
current Test players, Inzamam-ul Haq, Saeed Anwar, Wasim Akram,
Mushtaq Ahmed, Waqar Younis and first class cricketer Akram Raza
for not cooperating with the inquiry commission.``The civil suit
filed by Salim Malik against PCB has been dismissed by Muhammad
Azam, Civil Judge, First Class, Lahore,'' informed PCB media
manager Khalid Butt from Lahore.
The Honourable Judge in his remarks said that Salim Malik has no
cause of action against PCB as the fine and the ban from playing
international as well as domestic cricket was validly imposed.
