Four ex-militants kidnapped

By Our Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD, JUNE 20. Four former militants of the banned People's War Group were allegedly abducted by members of the Bheemgal squad from three villages in Bheemgal circle limits this evening.

The fresh kidnapping comes in the wake of the abduction of 14 persons from Konaraopet, Chandurthi, Vemulawada mandals of Karimnagar and Manala village of Kammarpalli mandal, of whom 10 were killed in the most gruesome manner between Vattimalla and Nimmapalli villages and Neral forest area separately last Friday and another victim died of injuries later. The victims were branded police informants who were planning covert operation to kill top naxal leaders.

Reports reaching here said two persons - Marri Devula and Devanna - from Devakkapet of Bheemnagar gram panchayat, Sharma of Gangarai and Swamy of Inayatnagar were allegedly picked up by the naxals and taken into the forests. It is said that the naxals first visited Inayatnagar and asked Swamy to accompany them.

The naxals visited Devakkapet and Gangarai and whisked away the three former militants of the banned outfit. Residents of Inayatnagar are understood to have protested against the kidnapping questioning the naxals as to why they were taking away Swamy. The naxals reportedly told the villagers that he was being taken away for interrogation as he had turned police informant.

The four abducted victims had worked in the PWG for some time and surrendered before the police. Since then, they have been leading a normal life in the village itself. The kidnapping has caused concern about their safety given last week killings.

The Superintendent of Police, Dr. Ravi Shankar Ayyanar, confirmed the kidnapping of two persons. He could not, however, confirm whether two others were also whisked away from Devakkapet.
