Official apathy in checking illegal constructions questioned

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JUNE 20. The 64th round of the administration's face- to-face programme with the public, telecast live on TV channels, drew complaints pertaining to drinking water problem, fused streetlights and the official inability to contain illegal constructions. There were some requests for road-widening as well.

However, an interesting observation came from Mr. Sudhir, a caller from Khairatabad area, who thought the Necklace Road being developed as a tourist spot was turning into a centre of `visual pollution' what with several huge signboards coming up at the place. The officials said they would look into the matter.

There were two calls from Nimboliadda complaining about illegal constructions in their area. No action was initiated by the officials though they were informed about it, they said. The Labour Minister, Mr. C. Krishna Yadav, said the officials would visit the place and take action tomorrow.

Mr. B.K. Raju from Himayatnagar wanted to know what the officials were doing despite knowing that the rain would cause waterlogging. Mr. Vamana Murthy from Dilshuknagar wanted replacement of water pipes to improve the drinking water facility. However, officials said three works of water pipe replacement was sanctioned for the area and the works were under progress.

Mr. Ramakrishna from Hyderguda suggested that work on widening be taken up on the road connecting Old MLA Quarters and Basheerbagh where the traffic was heavy. The officials said it was very much in the road-widening plan and work would be taken up in a couple of months.
