National students fete from Aug. 24

HYDERABAD, JUNE 23. A three-day National Students Festival will
be held here from August 24 to 26 to mark the 65-year
celebrations of the All India Student Federation (AISF).
The former Prime Minister, Mr.I.K. Gujral, is likely to
inaugurate the festival and film personalities, including Mrs.
Shabana Azmi, are expected to be associated with the cultural
fete on the second day.
Seminars to be organised as part of the festival will deal with
subjects such as ``Save Education from Privatisation and
Saffronisation.'' About 650 delegates from all AISF State units
are to participate in the deliberations.
About 30,000 students will participate in the rally to be taken
out on the inaugural day, Mr. G. Eswariah, general secretary of
the reception committee of the festival, told reporters on
Saturday. The reception committee was formed today to oversee the
arrangements for the national festival.
Mr. Eswaraiah said the Minister of Higher Education, Mr. Karanam
Ramachander Rao, the Minister for School Education, Mr.K.
Srihari, and the Minister for Technical Education, Mr. Alapati
Rajendra Prasad, had agreed to be the patrons of the reception
committee. Mr. N.R. Dasari, MP, Mr.K.V. Raghuram Reddy, former
West Bengal Governor, and Mr. P. Venkatram Reddy, Vice-
Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, are the
other three patrons while Mr. S. Sudhakar Reddy, State CPI
secretary, is its chairman.
