Between memory and history
"BETWEEN Memory and History" is an interactive work comprising
audio segments titled "Voices of Reflection" and the films titled
"Images of Images and Images in Images".
It is about reviewing artistic representations of certain
events/holocausts and the dwindling, but tenacious, presence of
the past in individual and collective memory. In the process of
making this work, artist Navjot has engaged herself in
questioning her position as a witness from distinct levels.
The exhibition has ribbons with superimposed text which are
incorporated from various national and international
publications. These include creative writing, historical
documentation, catalogues of artists, journals, psychoanalytical
studies, etc. related to the subject. The viewer is free to
untie, read and take away the ribbons.
This work was installed at the Tate Modern, London, as part of
"Century City Project" and is further extended at Sakshi Gallery,
Mumbai (June 16 - July 2).
