Uma Bharti joins Bajrang Dal

BHOPAL, JUNE 25. The Union Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Ms. Uma Bharti today joined the Bajrang Dal. At an `amrit mahotsav' function of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) here, Ms. Bharti asked the VHP working president, Mr. Ashok Singhal to complete the formalities.

Mr. Singhal handed over a sword to Ms. Bharti.

The Minister said she would disclose later in New Delhi why Bhopal was chosen for making this announcement. She challenged the Madhya Pradesh Government to ban the Bajrang Dal in the State, saying there was no comparison between the activities of the Dal and those of the Student Islamic Movement of India (SIMI).

Ms. Bharti said she was in the VHP fold from the beginning and was sent to the BJP on deputation.
