MCH gears up to face rain threat

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, JUNE 27. The Municipal Corporation of Hyderabad (MCH) is better equipped to face the rain threat in the coming months. The Hussainsagar surplus nala has been deepened and widened to take in the heavy inflows. The vents near the Viceroy hotel were also cleared. "We don't expect to receive the kind of rains that lashed the City last year," said the MCH Commissioner, Dr. P.K. Mohanty.

He was replying to a question raised by Dr. Subba Rao of Ashoknagar during the weekly "Face to face programme" with the city administration on Wednesday.

Two callers from Dabirpura and Basheerbagh complained about illegal constructions of houses and shops and wanted the MCH to take stern action. One person congratulated the MCH for taking up the demolition spree. During the last 10 days, the Corporation had flattened 135 buildings, Dr. Mohanty informed.

A caller from Bhimliwada in Nampally called Komaraiah was in for a surprise when he was informed that the patta land allotted to him by the district collector actually belonged to the Housing Board. The latter's clearance was necessary to take up housing activity there, Dr. Mohanty said.
