'Cong. has many PM candidates'
WASHINGTON, JUNE 29. The Congress president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi,
currently visiting the United States, has said her party had
several Prime Ministerial candidates, including some who were
accompanying her.
Asked at a news conference at the end of her two-day visit to the
State capital on Thursday, how keen she was to occupy the Prime
Minister's post, Ms. Gandhi said the post was not vacant and the
question would come up only after the general election.
Accompanying Ms. Gandhi are the former Finance Minister, Dr.
Manmohan Singh, and senior Congressmen, Mr. Natwar Singh, Mr.
Murli Deora and Mr. Jairam Ramesh.
Ms. Gandhi said her daughter Priyanka and son Rahul were
interested in politics but were not willing at the moment to
participate in active politics. ``Both my son and daughter are
interested in what goes on around them and, naturally, in the
politics of our country, but they are not at the moment
interested in participating actively in politics.''
