Cong. leader vows to expose TDP, TRS

By Our Special Correspondent

VIJAYAWADA, JUNE 29. The AICC secretary, Mr. V. Hanumantha Rao, has squarely blamed the TDP Government for neglecting irrigation projects in Telangana leading to discontent among people and giving scope for separatist demand. He blamed the Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) for liking the emotional and delicate issue of separate Telangana with the panchayat raj elections.

Speaking to newspersons here today, Mr. Hanumantha Rao said the Congress would expose both the TDP and TRS for ``cheating'' the people of Telangana. He said that as the Government neglected development affecting employment opportunities and started selling precious lands of institutions like Nizam Sugars, people felt disenchanted and attracted to the separatist demand. He pointed out that the Government had completed 90 per cent of the SRBC as against 10 per cent of SLBC showing its discrimination against Telangana region. It also neglected the flood flow canal for which all clearances were given. The Government, instead, laid the foundation stone for the Inchampalli project only to ``deceive people,'' he said.

Mr. Hanumantha Rao took the TRS leader, Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao, for exploiting this lapse on the part of the TDP Government to ``incite people.'' He pointed out that Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao who was Minister and Deputy Speaker never raised the issue of neglect of Telangana either in the Assembly or outside anytime before. He now promises people to get separate State for Telangana after winning the panchayat raj elections and the Lok Sabha elections. How can he do it without the consent of the State and Central Governments, he asked. He expressed surprise as how the TRS mobilised such huge funds through dinner and NRIs. ``It was only an attempt to make black money white,'' he observed.

He said that the Congress would like to fight the local body elections highlighting the failure of the Government in providing adequate powers and funds to panchayats as envisaged in the 73rd Constitutional amendment. The Congress would annul the nodal officer system if it won majority of zilla parishads.

Mr. M. Kodanda Reddy, party observer for Guntur district, said that injustice was done in the reservation of MPTCs, ZPTCs and panchayats for SCs, STs and BCs. In Guntur district, only 131 MPTCs were reserved for the Backward Classes as against their due of 332 on the basis of their population. Similarly, only 107 were reserved for SCs as against their due of 146 and only 38 for STs as against their due of 67. He said the Ministers are camping in districts and using the services of revenue and police for selection of candidates violating the Election code.
